Joan is a native from the Asbury Park area of New Jersey, also known as the “Jersey Shore”. She moved to Fort Mill in August 2007 with her husband, 2 dogs and 3 cats.

Joan has studied various media, but began to concentrate in watercolors in 1990 while working with Esther McMurray, of Oakhurst NJ, and Toni Monks, of Middletown NJ. Her typical style of art is photo-realism. She enjoys painting close-ups of flowers and roses, and likes to describe her technique as “every petal of a flower should be a painting within itself.” She also enjoys painting landscapes and still life.

She became an associate member of the New Jersey Watercolor Society in 1998, and has shown her work at the Christian Brothers Academy Annual Art Show in Lincroft, NJ. Joan has been commissioned to paint several works, which are privately owned. Joan taught beginner and intermediate watercolor classes for 2-1/2 years at the Thompson Park Art Center in Lincroft, NJ.

Joan now is a professional member of the the Fort Mill Art Guild, in Fort Mill, SC.
